4+ mon, 3+ week ago (443+ words) (This story has been updated with the new air date for the Hurricane Ian episode of "Survival Mode.") Tropical Storm Lorenzo forms in Atlantic. Will it become hurricane? Any Florida impacts?

1+ mon, 2+ week ago (403+ words) Tropical Storm Lorenzo formed Monday morning, Oct. 13, in the central Atlantic, according to the National Hurricane Center. Models vary widely on how strong Lorenzo could get in the coming days, ranging from a weak tropical storm to a Category 2 hurricane, the National Hurricane Center said. A Category 2 hurricane has maximum sustained winds ranging from 96 to 110 mph. Forecasters predict Lorenzo will turn north well away from Florida and the United States. Lorenzo is the 12th named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season and the third storm to form since Oct. 1. The National Hurricane Center also is tracking a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic. Lorenzo formed right after a powerful nor'easter, the first of the season, started bringing dangerous waves, high winds and heavy rain to the U.S. East Coast. As the storm moves north, forecasters warned it could bring hazards to coastal…...

Gilbert councilmember shares false rumor in attempt to discredit Republic 'Goons' reporter

11+ mon, 2+ week ago (989+ words) A Gilbert councilmember tried to discredit an Arizona Republic investigation by falsely saying a reporter had a personal "history" with the Gilbert Police Department. Two weeks after Republic reporter Robert Anglen sent Councilmember Chuck Bongiovanni and Gilbert police Chief Michael Soelberg inquiries about the department's handling of "Gilbert Goons" beatings, Bongiovanni told a community member Anglen had a grudge against Gilbert police. "Do you know why Robert has a hard-on for them?" Bongiovanni said in an Oct. 23 text obtained by The Arizona Republic. "There's also a little personal issue if you know what I mean." Bongiovanni did not describe the "little personal issue" in his texts. But a different Robert Anglen was arrested in 2013 on suspicion of harassing his ex-girlfriend, according to Gilbert police records. That Robert Anglen now lives out of state and has a different birth date, physical…...

Gilbert has a continuing problem with goons. Don't blame the reporter | Opinion

11+ mon, 2+ week ago (822+ words) After years of a gang of thugs running rampant through the town " after the community screams and the police finally are forced to act " after teen violence continues and the police chief insists there's nothing to see here " the town of Gilbert has finally identified the problem. It's reporter Robert Anglen. One of the two Arizona Republic reporters who ripped the cover off the state's fourth-largest city " that thin veneer that Gilbert is, essentially, Mayberry " is the problem. Better, apparently, to protect the town's precious reputation than to actually protect the town. For more than a year, Anglen and reporter Elena Santa Cruz have been dogging the story of how the "Gilbert Goons" terrorized the East Valley, culminating in the October 2023 beating death of 16-year-old Preston Lord. It was the worst-kept secret in town, what with chatter and cellphone recordings…...

"This is a scam. Be suspicious of any post like this that lacks specific details like time, location or police contact info, and always think twice before clicking suspicious links or providing banking info," Buckeye police said in a socialmediapost. Expert trial witness traces Brick man's phone along alleged route to dad's murder

2+ mon, 1+ week ago (615+ words) TOMS RIVER - Mark J. Austin's phone traveled the same route his former cellmate said Austin drove when he took him to kill his father in September 2019, according to testimony from an expert in radio frequency communications. The expert, David Stern of V-Comm Telecommunications, was one of the final witnesses for the state on Sept. 22 at Austin's trial in the murder of his father, Mark R. Austin." Mark J. On Sept. 11, Melton testified that he beat the victim to death with a baseball bat after his former cellmate offered him $50,000 to commit the killing." Report: OKC Thunder had interest in Suns' 2031 first-round pick

10+ mon, 1+ week ago (392+ words) The Suns' 2031 first-round pick is already a rich trade asset. Kevin Durant and Devin Booker will surely decline by then. And who knows but odds are, neither will be in Phoenix by then. It makes sense ... Report: OKC Thunder had interest in Suns' 2031 first-round pick Instead of sitting back and enjoying a title contender, Sam Presti continues to scour the rest of the league for long-distance draft capital. It's a luxury he's afforded with the best job security in the NBA on the Oklahoma City Thunder. That was proven again when ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported that the Thunder were interested in the Phoenix Suns' 2031 unprotected first-round pick. Instead, the valuable draft asset went to the Utah Jazz in exchange for three first-round picks. Phoenix will receive the least favorable of Minnesota or Cleveland in 2025; Minnesota, Cleveland or Utah in 2027; Minnesota,…...
